Kim, it’s hard to believe that 7 months has past since I photographed the debut of your twins,  Callum and Ava, April 6, 2009.  I thought I would share with our Custom Concept Photography family the precious images from their “birth story”  that I was invited to capture.  Here are  the pages from the album Custom Concept Photography created for them to look back on during their lives.  I can’t wait to photograph Ava and Callum next week.

Thank you for allowing me to record your “Birth Story”.  I’m sure you will fondly remember Andrew texting to keep the family up to date during the delivery.

Trish

Now fast forward to the digital world.  Have you notice more and more camera shops closing up that used to develop your film.  Have you noticed people don’t have family photo albums on their coffee table or book shelves.  There is a serious problem with the digital era.  We don’t print photos any more.  We’re all guilty of it.  How many vacations are still on your memory stick.  Christmas pictures stored on a hard drive.  Or family get togethers lost on a computer that crashed.  Thankfully Professional Photographers are in the business of selling prints, and big ones too.

On Tuesday, March 17th at 7:21 pm Trish delivered our second son into the world.  Tristan Jacob Stephen Roberts, 8lbs.8oz.  When Sterling was born I brought my little Sony Cybershot in to the delivery room and took some pictures, but lets face it, I had more important things to do.  I discovered ice water, music and counting between pushes was very important to Trish during delivery.  I’d like to think I was a great coach even if I was eating a Bentley Burger and Fries.  I remember asking Trish after Sterling was born what she remembers.  All she remembered was hearing herself saying “OW”  “OW”…. (Trish had no epidural both times).  Now comes Son number two and we are going to be prepared to record another one of the most important times in our life.  Those of you who have been there know what a miraculous day having a baby can be.   To see a new life being brought into the world.  A little person you have talked to without seeing, felt his kicks and imagined what he will be like.  Will he look like Trish or Me, or a combination us.  This is a BIG day.

We asked a friend and fellow photographer, Tina Weltz of Calla Studio, to photograph the delivery.  When the day came Tina was a phone call away and arrived soon after we settled into the delivery room at 5:oo pm.  Of course she already had her camera in hand and had already been taking detail shots on her way into the room and by 9:30 that night she gone home to download pictures to facebook so all our friends could see our little man, Tristan.  It was so great when I got home at 12:00am and saw them on facebook.  Like my trip to Europe when I was 17, I couldn’t wait to see them.

A couple days later Tina sent us a link to an album she designed that covered our whole experience.  It was incredible.  She captured the feel, mood, pain and joy we all felt and shared in, like only a professional photographer can.  Now once again I can’t wait to see the final album printed.  A physical piece of art that I can hold and share with family and friends.  An album I can look at any time I want at my own lazy pace or flip through quickly to remember the event.  An album that can be passed around when family or friends come to visit and we don’t have to huddle around a computer screen and view them at someone else’s pace. ….  All I can say is, ” Thank you Tina for stopping time for us and preserving it in a way that can truly enjoyed for generations.  I’m sure the album will still be here for Tristan’s children to enjoy long after computers have crashed, memory cards have been lost and the current storage formats have become obsolete.
