We love it when a client approaches us with an idea and we work together to develop the perfect image and gift!  I also don’t think there is a more personal gift than a Boudoir session.  Boudoir or Intimate photography reveals the soul and passion and lets that special person know how much you want to be with them even when your not there.

When I first talked with Sarah on the phone she was looking for a boudoir photographer she could be comfortable with and was inquiring about doing an intimate photography session for her husband as a Christmas gift.  I went through the usual list of questions and when I asked her about outfits and maybe a theme there was a pause.  Sarah then replied with, “I’m a runner so I was just thinking of wearing my running shoes……….and that’s it.”  Right then I knew we were going to have fun.  You see Sarah is a runner and has ran the Boston Marathon twice along with others (as you can see by the medals).  She really wanted to incorporate a very important part of her life and who she is into her boudoir  session with Trish.  I also suggested we add something that her husband likes, and as you can see, Sarah’s husband is a big Calgary Flames fan.  And now I can see why.  When I asked Sarah if I could do a blog post on her Boudoir Session with Trish she was all for it (with certain photos) and even offered to write something for me.  I of course could write about how great the session was and how great the images are but when it comes from our clients mouth, it’s for real and the truth.  Thank you Sarah for your words and feelings.  I of course could not begin to write about an experience that is all yours.

Now that Christmas is over and Sarah’s husband has received his Intimate Photography gift, it time for us to show them off.  Just in time for Valentines Day.

The following is written by Sarah:

The Idea

My mother did a boudoir session for my father some 10 years ago.  I remember looking at her photographs with such admiration (don’t worry – she was completely covered!).  Not only was my father touched by the idea, I could tell he was proud of her.  He still sets them out, after over ten years.  She looked amazing and I admired the courage she had to step out of her comfort zone and do something so special for someone she loves.

This past year for Christmas, I wanted to give my husband something extra special.  Something that he could keep always and upon unwrapping would leave him speechless.

I shopped around for a photographer whom I thought could capture exactly what I was looking for, and whom I felt comfortable with.  I knew that if I wasn’t comfortable in the initial stages of this process, I wouldn’t be able to loosen up and my photographs wouldn’t turn out the way I’d imagined.  Trish & Trevor were fantastic.  During my initial consultations I explained what I was looking for, and since I had never posed for this type of shoot, had a lot of questions for them both.  Everything from hair and make up to how many pieces of clothing did I have to or could I wear?  I felt so good about the idea after talking to them.  I was so excited; the shoot couldn’t have come quicker!

The Photo Shoot

The day finally arrived.  When I got up that morning, I was surprisingly nervous and a little shaky.  But as soon as my makeup and hair were done, I was back in the zone.  Initially was thinking of just doing my own hair and makeup, but I’m so glad I didn’t.  Not only did I feel beautiful leaving the hair salon that morning, it really helped me get into character.

When I got to the studio, Trish asked me to lay out my “outfits,” or lack thereof. I have to admit, it was awkward explaining, “Well, I was thinking of just wearing my running shoes, medals and… these panties?”, or “Okay, and for this one, just a white t-bar and pearls?” Trish was extremely professional.  She asked me what I wasn’t comfortable showing and how much I was prepared to bare.  She said it was completely up to me.  I said, “Well, you’re the professional.  If you think it will look good, let’s do it!” Trish turned on the music, I changed and the shoot began.

For those of you who are wondering, yes, the first few minutes were the most awkward.  It’s the first picture really, because it’s the first instance where you actually take off your clothes, get into position and slap on a smile; it’s when you realize you’re actually doing it!  But after the first few clicks, you forget about the fact that you’re barely wearing anything, you can’t stop smiling and you just have a blast!  It was so fun – working with the lights, changing into the different outfits and just thinking about the how awesome the pictures were going to turn out!  It was such an empowering experience – a natural high and that day I actually felt incredible in nothing but my own skin!

The Gift

After viewing the proofs of my session, I decided to have one of my photos framed and a little black book of pictures from the three sittings put together for my husband.  The finished product turned out so well; I was thrilled with it.

The Reaction

I have to say that even I wasn’t prepared for the reaction I got out of my husband this past Christmas.  I introduced the black book to him first.  As he flipped through the pages, all could say was, “Wow… this is so CRAZY… wow!” He was exactly what I was looking for – speechless!  He just stared at all of the pictures, flipping back and forth.  It was the first time my husband has gotten emotional from one of my gifts, and that was exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you Trish & Trevor!

Thank you Sarah for letting us “develop” your vision for you!!
